VIRGINITY TEST: GOVERNMENT YET TO DECIDE PRINCIPLES FATE

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, will decide the fate of the Principal, Ajuwon Senior High School, Rev. Olufunke Aladeojobi, and the school nurse, Mrs. M.B. Afolabi, who allegedly conducted virginity tests on pupils of the school.

A three-man panel set by the govt to investigate the issue submitted a three-page evaluation report to the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology at about 2pm on Monday.

LAGOS State Government yesterday said it would commence the prosecution of tax defaulters in the state.

According to the state Commissioner for Justice, machinery has been put in motion to ensure criminal prosecution of these tax defaulters in the state.

Two deaf twin brothers in Belgium were euthanized by their doctor after realizing they were going blind and would be unable to see each other ever again, their physician says.

The 45-year-old men, whose names have not been made public, were legally put to death by lethal injection at the Brussels University Hospital in Jette, on Dec. 14.

The men, who were born deaf, had a cup of coffee and said goodbye to other family members before walking into hospital room together to die, their doctor told Belgian television station RTL.

"They were very happy. It was a relief to see the end of their suffering," said Dr. David Dufour.

"They had a cup of coffee in the hall. It went well and a rich conversation. Then the separation from their parents and brother was very serene and beautiful," he said. "At the last there was a little wave of their hands and then they were gone,"

OHAKIM ACCUSED OF N62bn FRAUD

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has alleged that an interim review of the state account showed that the immediate past administration of Chief Ikedi Ohakim was involved in a staggering N62 billion fraud.

Okorocha, who disclosed this in a 23-page document he read while addressing a cross section of Imo people, also said this was the first part of the findings of the EXCO Committee on account reconciliation.

“The total amount of suspected transactions identified as such, in this first part, amount to about N62 billion.

“This report identifies financial transactions where we observed irregularities from government officials, private companies and even banks and which funds are considered recoverable by the state,” Okorocha said.

Okorocha said that cumulatively, N483.7 billion of the financial resources were available to the state during the period under review.

Reacting to these allegations, Dr. Kelechi Okalaeke, who served as Commissioner for Information and Strategy during Ohakim’s tenure said: “If the Governor has come out with these findings, why did he set up the judicial panel?

“With this development, the governor has obviously pre-empted the outcome of the exercise or has told the panelists where to go.”

GROUNDED: Boeing 787 jets in Japan to be checked

Japan's transport ministry says Boeing 787 planes are being grounded for safety checks in the latest blow for the new passenger jet.

One of the 787s operated by All Nippon Airways made an emergency landing Wednesday in western Japan after a cockpit message showed battery problems — the latest in a series of problems including a battery fire and fuel leaks. No one has been seriously injured.

WOMAN WITH RARE DISORDER DIES AT 34

As a teenager growing up in Las Vegas, Tanya Angus strutted along fashion runways. She was 5 feet 8 inches tall.

But at the time of her death Monday, the 34-year-old Angus stood 7 feet 2 inches and weighed about 400 pounds. She was a victim of a rare disorder called acromegaly that wouldn't let her stop growing. In children the condition is known as gigantism.

Her condition was the result of the release of too much growth hormone caused by a non-cancerous tumor on her pituitary gland.

The disorder affected just about everything for Angus. She couldn't pull even the largest of shirts over her head, because she couldn't fit through the collar. She needed specially made shoes, and jewelers stretched her rings to size 20.

An autopsy is pending, but Strutynski said it appears Angus died after catching a cold and developing a tear in her heart.

Her mother plans to keep up Angus' website and continue corresponding with patients struggling to deal with the disease.

"We can't let it end. It's just too important," Strutynski said, her voice cracking. "We can't just let it die with Tanya."

RHINO ATTACK IN JOHANNESBURG

This Picture was taken right before the rhino attacked, penetrating the woman's chest with its horn, breaking ribs and collapsing one of her lungs.

The photographer took this before telling the couple to 'stand just a little bit closer' to the rhino.

They did stand closer. Then the rhino attacked.

The Aloe Ridge Hotel and Nature Reserve, where the incident took place, declined to comment Tuesday.

US PRESIDENT, OBAMA TO ANNOUNCE GUN-SAFETY PROPOSAL

Following the events of uncontrolled shootings in the States, the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, will Wednesday publicly announce his gun-safety proposal; with new recommendations, including some executive actions in addition to legislative proposals like a ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines.

"Tomorrow, the president and the vice president will hold an event here at the White House to unveil a package of concrete proposals to reduce gun violence and prevent future tragedies like the one in Newtown, Connecticut," White House spokesman Jay Carney said during a briefing Tuesday afternoon.

Director of Protocol to Imo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Laz Anyanwu, who was kidnapped last Friday, has been killed by his abductors.

The kidnappers, who stabbed him in several parts of his body, reportedly dumped his body at Orobo in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of the state.
